At its worst, you might lose your teeth. The bottom line? If you want to keep your teeth, you must take care of your gums. The mouth is a busy place, with millions of bacteria constantly on the move. While some bacteria are harmless, others can attack the teeth and gums." That FDA release was written for the average Joe..... Diabetics and Gum disease have a whole new situation that multiplies the problem.. Gum disease thrives with an uncontrolled high blood sugar diabetic because
this high sugar high acid condition mouth is the perfect breeding ground for
gum disease, root canals and tooth loss. Dentists are being alerted to suggest patients with high numbers of root canals be tested for diabetes. We are now doing articles on inflammation as being a source for 80 to 90% of medical problems of modern man. (including diabetes) One of the chronic sources of hidden inflammation can be an undiagnosed periodontal infection. So this works both ways...diabetes (high blood sugar) leads to more periodontal infections, and periodontal disease can lead to and/or worsen diabetes. Which came first the chicken or the egg? This is another motivation for diabetics to get right after the control of their blood sugar. Studies have also shown that with severe periodontal disease it will
increase blood sugar, Therefore if you have periodontal disease and get rid of it, this really
helps your diabetes problem and lessons your chances of advancing to diabetes
complications. The other side of the coin is If diabetic high blood sugar is left unchecked, bacteria developing into periodontal disease destroy bone and connective tissue, then your teeth often become loose and may have to be removed. A recent poll of 1,000 people over 35 done by Harris Interactive Inc. found that 60 percent of adults surveyed knew little, if anything, about gum disease, the symptoms, available treatments, and--most importantly--the consequences. And 39 percent do not visit a dentist regularly. Such gum disease is the leading cause of all adult tooth loss, not just diabetics. Here is your authors experience. My mouth was a sore spot with me and I was very upset that I was having 2 or 3 root canals per year.
A candidate for a root canal is a tooth, that despite going to the dentist twice a year (and despite getting several filled timely) .gets decayed never the less (or inspite of) and the tooth is (lost) destroyed. (after a bad toothache). Now you have a choice...pull the tooth or get a root canal and a cap... To start a root canal your traditional dentist drills out all the decayed part, stops the toothache and after a couple of hundred bucks and a temporary cap sends you over to the root canal specialist who further drills out the center of your now dead tooth, fills it with magic potions and sends you back to your regular dentist who makes a mold and sends out to a lab to have a "cap" made. This realistic looking magic cap goes over your dead tooth, when the lab is finally finished and supposedly your chances of keeping this jacketed tooth for over four of five years is about 50-50. You can chintzy it out without the cap and save $500 but your tooth life expectancy is about half. Your billfold is also about $1,500 lighter for the full jacketed, everything modern science can offer. Over the years I have lost three of these that did not last..,, two capped and the one not.....(I am 77 so some I have had for a while.) Since going on the caveman diet, my mouth feels entirely different. is not
an issue of any kind for the last year, almost a miracle change.. However, since going on the chocolate heavy program...(no sugar) I have noticed some difference and will report on that later). I was very upset with my dentist and told him so, that as a professional, he should have recognized that I had some unusual problem develop (diabetes) and the resulting huge increase in root canals and that he should have alerted me to getting a diabetes check up. His excuse was he thought it was just cause I was ignoring their demands (bugging me) to brush and floss more. My advice, get your diet switched to what your body was designed for and your mouth should be just like caveman's. Absolutely no dental problems. Be sure you do not currently have a periodontal infection that can be adding or even causing your diabetics problem. Nothing you do to get your sugar in balance will work well until you get that fixed if it exists. Both Diabetes and Alzheimer's it appears, now are developed from or at least related to the traditional diabetes blood sugar disorders and excess insulin production attempting to overcome insulin resistance. This resistance and resulting high insulin damage problem developed due to the high consumption over a period of years, of sugar, flour, and highly processed, refined and man made oils, fats and food.
Both of these exploding disorders stem therefore, from the same root cause, namely an increasing amount of "Modern Man Processed Food plus maybe some unknowingly and knowingly poor personal dietary choices by consumers-- . It appears you can have one or the other or both from the same basic root cause.
Note: Your author also finds it interesting that a recent discovery indicates the brain has its own very small insulin manufacturing system.
