New Studies Clear Up Hardening Of The Arteries, (atherosclerosis) Diabetes Connection

The standard accepted belief was that atherosclerosis, aka (hardening of the arteries,) developed when too much cholesterol clogged arteries with fatty deposits called plaques. This was the unsupported belief that set off the billions of dollars a year, "lower your cholesterol or die," craze and developed a whole new industry basically from a false premise. New studies are showing the real issues. When blood vessels became completely blocked, heart attacks and strokes occurred, but now most experts realize and agree that the body's adverse reaction to fatty build-up, by the body's own immune system, more than the build-up itself, creates this increased heart attack risk. Your survival system has Immune cells constantly traveling with the blood to rid the body of intruders. In this case they mistake fatty deposits for intruders, knowing they are not natural, and as such work to rid them by attacking them similar to bacteria, fungus etc. These ever present immune cells home in on these unwanted fat cells in this location and attack them and wind up resulting in something called inflammation. Triglycerides are the measurement of fat cells in the blood and are an important reading to shoot for low in control in diabetics. That body immune system reaction makes any plaques in those blood vessels more likely to swell, rupture and cut off blood flow, and it is these self induced immune system attacks that cause most of the deaths. Cholesterol is there to plug leaks. Your body makes cholesterol for many reasons and makes the amount it decides best adds to your life expectancy. Going about looking at enhancing your life expectancy, back to pre-diabetes status, recent studies reveal, risk for premature death is higher for those over 55 for those with high cholesterol, then those with low cholesterol. (up to 5 times higher, in a study of over 800 men) Conclusions from my own readings and health, 3 years ago, was that cholesterol was of little importance as a diabetic if I just left it alone.Understand that because diabetes increases atherosclerosis-related inflammation, diabetic patients are statistically twice as likely to have a heart attack or stroke. Death from these are called "degenerative diseases".Past work has shown that high blood sugar has two effects on cells lining blood vessels as part of atherosclerosis. First, is that Diabetes is reported to increase the production of free radicals, that are highly reactive and go about tearing apart sensitive cell components like DNA, causing premature cell death. This process in diabetics also reduces the availability of nitric oxide (NO), which enables blood vessels to relax and blood flow to increase. It is adding in an increase in (NO) from substances like dark chocolate that studies show cut premature deaths in half. This happens because of restoring blood vessels ability to relax and blood to flow normally. In contrast, diabetes, cuts the (NO) but adding in exercise (physical force is shown to restore) and good diet and the right supplements, (such as dark chocolate, etc) you can regain faster blood flow through your blood vessels. Force created by fast, steady blood flow as it drags along blood vessel walls has been shown by recent studies to protect arteries from further development of atherosclerosis. Remember, it is not diabetes itself, that is likely to lead to a premature death, it is the effects of diabetes, like enhancing atherosclerosis and strokes that are the actual killer. Fix these and you can regain normal life expectancy even though you have diabetes for life. \
