The idea of 3 big meals daily is not a natural state for man and did not even begin until the start of the industrial age- in the 1800's.
Man had always eaten until that start, only at times when food was easily available and as hungry.The natural operating system for man for 100,000 generations was as basically a fat burning body, running on fat as 75% of total calories and the balance of mans energy, only 25% from carbs. You stored energy on and as fat and burned fat. Carbs, were auxiliary energy fast kick in for short augmentation, since body fat does not convert back to energy fast enough for emergency spurts from danger etc.With a dual energy system man can track an animal and outlast it, until the animal drops from exhaustion not having the equivalent dual energy system. Understanding this was developed and those that had it survived over the centuries and those that did not were not around to reproduce.To get energy from carbs required eating a lot of greenie and root vegetables, most not available all year around in many areas. Fruit was rarely available, the high sugar season, was only during a very small part of the year. You put on weight by eating high sugar over the summer fruit season. You needed some body fat to get you over the little fat available winter season. Carbs were not plentiful since the potato did not show up until after Columbus.You never had sugar highs and lows, and you did not feel starved with a sugar low because you didn't™ have them. See our articles on this subject. When you were regimented to eating at certain times by the Industrial Revolution, it meant you ate large meals of everything mixed together at one setting. Vegetable, for example, require different digestives enzymes than digesting fruit. They should not be eaten together. We can get into that more but here merely point out that the punctual large meals mixing all foods together are not a natural state.
When man ate more or less continuously , say every two hours and
never ate all that much, your sugar level automatically lowers
considerably.
For example my huge evening meals consist almost entirely of huge
quantity of vegetables. Start with a large green salad and then 1/4 of a
head of cabbage (all steamed). Asparagus (onions raw, garlic raw) lots
of grass raised butter on it, a small amount of meat (hamburger sized or
less fatty - buffalo, or something range raised and grass fed).
That supper contains, outside of the butter, very low calories and no sugar whatsoever.Since I have been essentially eating something when ever the urge hit or about every two hours I really am not all that hungry. If hungry, I grab a handful of walnuts or something and I really do not care if supper is later or not.What I am trying to do here is get you to understand what the natural eating system for your inherited body system is and why you are having problems getting your inherited system to adopt to what, for it, is not a natural state. Adopt your eating system to your personal inherited system, it may be different then your spouse. If Asian for example, your ancestors have never had nor are they adopted at all to anything dairy. (that is why you wont find cheese in a Chinese restaurant etc.)What ever part of the world your ancestors came from have slightly different operating adaptation systems and you need to figure out what your and how your ancestors were eating and living on 1,000 years ago in the area of the world you descend from. Adopt to that type of input and your body will just "click" right in.When we refer to going on the "caveman" or paleo diet, it really is not a diet at all, it is just going back and adopting your eating and living to the pattern your body has programming for. Stop trying or forcing your body to adopt or accept what does not work for it.Your inherited survival system is very strong and set in its ways. The sooner you figure out you are going to lose in the long run fighting to get it to accept whatever you think it should do, which does not fit its long term survival program. The key to success. figure out what it is and work with it. not against it. Then your life and health "flows" and it is no longer a struggle.
