Engineered Manufactured "Sweetener" Introduced in 1970, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Tied To Obesity and Diabetes
Explosion as Use Rises to 88 pounds per person.

Linked Directly To Rapid Increase In "Insulin Resistance."

15 Million Diabetic Victims (plus parallel Obesity rise) added as Government Drops the Ball.

"Based on the research and information I have on January 06, the following makes sense to me," Harlan Jacobsen Copyright © 2006

Cane Sugar and Beet Sugar now appear as mild villains in causing Diabetes and Obesity compared to this monster on the loose since 1970 which has now taken over half the sweetener market.

Fructose in Fruits packed with fiber and Honey were handled by your body in small quantities.

This manufactured engineered refined "form of sugar" now exceeds all other sugar consumption combined.

The US Department of Agriculture themselves recommend you not consume more then 10 to 12 Teaspoons of sugar per day.

Consumption is now over 33 teaspoons per day and it is primarily "High Fructose Corn Syrup." Here-in-after here referred to as HFCS.

Diabetes is primarily a "carbohydrate metabolism" problem which until now called a body "screw up of some kind" resulting in a build up of cell "insulin resistance". Resisting Insulin by your cells rising to a high level, for whatever reason, past control means sugar builds up in your blood stream causing body damage and you have DIABETES.

Up Until Now They Had No Explanation For The Explosive Rise In Obesity and Diabetes Since The 70's.

The rapid rise in Insulin resistance resulting in the explosion in Diabetes numbers was listed every where as an "unexplained" rise.

Animal tests early on with rats showed that HFCS interfers with copper metabolism to the extent male rats would not mature and female rats reabsorbed their young when fed HFCS.

Guinea pigs, the most like humans, developed insulin resistance in a matter of weeks when fed HFCS.

At that time the Agriculture department was clinging to the story that those were just tests on animals, no conclusive human tests had proven that.

Now there are 15 million human tests (people developed diabetes while consuming HFCS,) plus studies that make it clear not only do HFCS cause insulin resistance in short order, they cause a whole list of problems that make it clear this stuff never should have even ever been allowed on the market.

All the usual causes of Diabetes and Obesity are still in affect. What this clears up is why no matter how hard you tried, your insulin resistance has become irreversable and continues to climb even though you have been doing everything right.

It also explains what has pushed millions of people that were close to diabetic over the line.

Best You Get Up To Speed Fast On What and How The Wrong Thing In Your Food Can Kill You

Education On High Fructose Corn Syrup.

  • Manufactured From Corn Starch, Chemical and fermentation processing turns it into a form of Fructose.

  • 1.7 times as sweet as cane or beet sugar, food manufactured with it does not spoil as fast and has long shelf life, pastrys brown four times as fast, etc etc.

  • It is not absorbed with the insulin- cell- sugar absorption you have become familiar with as a diabetic, it is processed entirely in the liver.
Some diabetics claimed it is a savior because it does not raise "sugar levels" like cane sugar.

  • Cane and Beet sugars are kept artificially high in price by politics. HFCS is 20% cheaper and has other "processed food" advantages for manufacturers..

  • Nearly all soft drink and fruit juice bottlers and 'drink" manufacturers have switched from sugar to HFCS.

  • Teenagers' milk consumption with weight regulating calcium, fell between 1965 and 1996 by 36 percent, pop consumption (now with HFCS) increased by more than 200 %. Result=Fat Teenagers.

  • A 20 ounce Coke now gives you 17 teaspoons of HFCS. A single 12-ounce can of soda has as much as 13 teaspoons of HFCS. Soda consumption doubled since 1970 to 60 gallons per person a year, Now almost all sweetened with HFCS.

  • Consumption of HFCS now at 88 pounds per person and growing. Total sugar now 152 pounds per person.

  • A Tablespoon of Ketchup gives you a teaspoon of HFCS. A Low fat Fruit Flavored Yogurt gives you up to 10 teaspoons of HFCS. Even your sugar bowl now has HFCS.
(Regular sugar is part glucose and part fructose, HFCS is also part glucose but is primarily Fructose.)

  • MacDonalds has 32 foods with HFCS added, Burgertime 36 including Shakes.

  • HFCS do not quench your appetite the same as other sugars, so you continue to eat, Adding to the gain weight problem.

  • HFCS convert far faster to fat then any other sugars.

  • Fructose raises serum triglycerides significantly.

  • Implicated in elevated blood cholesterol levels and the creation of blood clots.

  • Inhibits the immune system action of white blood cells.

  • Elevates insulin levels in women on "the pill".

  • Fatty deposits and cirrhosis, similar to livers of alcoholics, found in test animals fed large amounts of fructose.

  • Pure fructose contains no enzymes, vitamins or minerals.

  • Eating fructose leads to higher mineral losses, then those fed sucrose.

  • Fructose causes a significant increase in the concentration of uric acid; which can be an indicator of heart disease. Glucose does not.

  • Uric Acid spikes from HFCS block the action of insulin, and the regulation of body cells use and storage of sugar.

  • Frequent (HFCS caused) elevated uric acid levels bring out Insulin resistance, high blood pressure, obesity and elevated blood cholesterol levels.

  • Unlike glucose HFCS does not produce the hormones, insulin and leptin which both act as signals to the brain to turn down the appetite and control body weight.

HFCS is finally an identified verifiable reason for the sudden EXPLOSIVE increase in Diabetes and Obesity.

This is the piece of the puzzle of why Insulin Resistance continued to build up and your disease progresses even while you get your blood sugar under complete control.

Eliminate High Fructose Corn Syrup Consumption Immediately

This includes all foods with this engineered manufactured HFCS added, plus eliminate all engineered manufactured oils and fats.

Another article: but be warned.

No, this is not something your editor author has dreamed up. Spent over a week on researching
the subject and at least 100 plus sources.
I think it is the most important thing you get on to right away if you want to have any chance of getting ahead of Diabetes and Obesity.

How Long Will HFCS Be Allowed To Be Sold?

Here is a Blog (Jim) reporters answer to the question of how you keep uric acid caused by HFCS lower?

"Eat less high fructose corn syrup.

I strongly suspect that it's going to be the asbestos of the 21st century - ubiquitous, hazardous, shamefully covered up, and lawsuit fodder until every last person exposed to it is gone.

The corn industry should thank their lucky stars that people want to make corn oil into diesel fuel, because I think high fructose corn syrup is going to go away".

The 2003 book, "Fat Land: How Americans Became the Fattest People in the World."
Journalist Greg Critser early on exposes the overwhelming case against high fructose corn syrup.

Here are a few of the more interesting recent reading (compared to studies) that you might want to run thru as you research this subject yourself.

Do not take my word for it...this is important to your chances of living a maxed out life span.

What Do You Do About It ? Probably Nothing.......

If like most, you will just complain about society and "making them shape up".

If you are serious about doing something about "curing" your diabetes, your will realize this information is likely
the key to stop your diabetes from "progressing even when you were doing everything right.

This is one of the culprits that was making your "insulin resistance" continue to rise (Diabetes progress) (and complications still develop) even when you got your blood sugar under control.

We Know Diabetes is A Carb Metabolism Problem

Now we know Fructose is one of the "normal Metabolism" foul ups, that screws it up, along with transfats, (and other engineered and manufactured fats) MSG, Nitrates, artificial sweeteners etc etc.

To Keep Track Of What To Eat Is Becoming A Diabetics Night Mare.

You will need to figure out how you can handle it....long term.

Got far too complicated adding and subtracting, substituting carbs, reading labels and then later realizing they were misleading, etc. took a CPA just to run your diet.
I early resigned from all that...

I went on the caveman (phaleo) diet, hardly any work at all, and I really don't care what they add subtract to processed food such as fructose cause I am not eating or drinking any of that stuff anyway. As of today, I have lost over 50 pounds in 8 months. Did not really work at that or make any effort on that, it just happened. (still happening)
Last weeks test my trigycerides were down to 57 when the doctor said the goal was to be under 200. Did not do a thing to accomplish that either. My Arthritis in my finger went away and I made no effort there either.

My stick to it ness accomplishment was just to eat what was on the list (phaleo diet is eat what caveman ate) and not eat or drink what wasn't on the list. Does only take you a day or two to figure that out...

Simple shopping formula.
Go thru the super market, if your 1000 years ago ancestor where ever they came from, could have gotten it with a sharp stick and a rock you buy it. (remember potatoes and some other foods did not exist for them til after Columbus) (dairy did not exist either)

Meat formula,
if it did not run, fly or swim growing up don't buy it. (no confined grain fed)
(sometimes you can not stick to this)
Rest of store...if does not sprout or rot don't buy it.

Eat all you want, anytime you want...never go hungry... More on that elsewhere... Just wanted you to know how I handle it...and will have no problem continuing it the rest of my life.

It is easy...just takes a month or two to get used to...and then its no problem.
Makes life real simple.

This is the diet that was so popular your ancestors were 100% on it for over 100,000 generations. It worked then,
it works now, since you are feeding essentially the same body.

Now I realize most of you wont do it...but
I did explain the option. Readers Digest has a new book out I will be telling you about, and that it is easy to follow and most of you can stick with that diet. If you are not going to be able to stay on it comfortably for the rest of your life it probably wont work for you.

When we list outside links for you to read more and other views and sources, remember, we do not control them. They discontinue, move etc. and may no longer work. Just go on to the next one. Push back to return to this site.

Fructose Raises Triglyceride Levels

While consumers may not have even blinked when the use of high fructose corn syrup replaced sucrose (table sugar) as a sweetener several years ago, new research is showing that fructose has the ability to significantly raise triglyceride levels, which may increase the risk of heart disease.

Are These Foods Really Healthy?

They may look wholesome, but each contains an ingredient that can make you fat--and harm your health.
by Dayna Winter, RD

Here is an article from Prevention that covers two engineered foods that are a problem. "Trans Fats" see our other articles on harmful fats) and from High Fructose Corn Syrup, now the US number one sweetener.

Readers Digest April 06 has this to say Page 57,

Question, What's so bad about corn? I thought corn was a vegetable, so why have I heard we should avoid high fructose corn syrup like the plague?

Answer: Candy corn, corn chips and corn dogs prove this veggie isn't always good for you. As it turns out, our love affair with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) may be linked to the obesity epidemic. The sweetener is made when fructose, a type of sugar is added to glucose, the natural sugar in corn. HFCS is found in abundance in sodas and many processed foods, from cookies to yogurt. But HFCS has none of the healthy stuff found in corn, and studies suggest fructose is more likely to make you fat then glucose. If HFCS is listed as one of the first five ingredients on a food label, don't eat it

Diabetic emergency supplies

An individual with diabetes should wear or carry I.D. information (such as an alert bracelet) that emergency medical staff can find.
A sugar source, such as glucose tablets or raisins should be carried in case blood sugar levels become too low.

On-Your-Person
Preparedness

Editors Note: The bracelets are a good idea for all Diabetics. However, the raisins etc are applicable primarily for those taking increased insulin level medications or insulin and are subject therefore to Hypoglycemia (insulin shock) from low blood sugar on occasion.
